Powder bath

Thank heavens for pinterest.. for me as a designer I truly am drawn to so many designs that are unique and different.  Which is a blessing, in turn then I can help clients with a broad scope of styles.. I am a "in the closet" boaster (if that can even be a thing), I believe that I can design a great space for any style, given my appreciation & love for all styles..{naturally with my own little twists}. So when it came to designing two of my own personal rooms (the kitchen & bath) I needed a lot of picture inspration to narrow down what I personally wanted, hence the grattitude for the online resources we have today.  I found my powder bath LOVE.

Brass is in and I am totally enjoying this trend.  I think it is a great metal it has been around eons & it's back with a vengence & I am ready to embrace its warmth and luster whole heartedly.  Here brass is the showcase, I love the faucet, under mounted hardwares and the simple floating vanity.. I found a similar light and {floating} water closet I am happy with to.

Hopefully my guests will appreciate the lou's look as much as I do.

Master jewels - AXOR

Patricia Urquiola

The Spanish-born designer has been named “best designer” by the international media on multiple occasions. A shining star at furniture trade fairs, she is equally successful with lighting and materials. A former student of design legend Achille Castiglioni, she is now one of the leading voices of modern design. Her refreshingly unconventional work combines feminine style and floral references with a minimalistic approach: “I love creating fusion!”

Her slogan “Awakening your senses”.

I was facinated and in awe of the AXOR Urquiola line when in the showroom and selecting my homes bathroom fixtures.. it is a bit of a splurge but these fixtures are like jewels on a great "little black dress."  With a minimalistic background I felt these faucets and fixtures would shine.  It took me a few days at Morrison Supply here in Austin to finalize these choices but here is the direction I've gone.

STAIRWAY TO...

I am still trying to narrow down a proper stair rail for our staircase.. It's pretty clear what I like but I still favor many styles hence my homes feels like a collage of styles.  I like to say bohemian classical.  I lean to rustic charm for its warmth and easy wear but I love the tailored sense of a traditioanl age old turn of the century flair to boot..

oh decisions, decisions..

Finishes & a peek

Our sweet architect has a mind like mine when it come to the asthetic and finishes for the exterior of our home.  His first suggestion was spot on..  Epay wood.  I love the warmth and natural purity it lends to the homes more stark shapes and hard edges.  But to give ourselves options and for lower maintenace/costs we are also considering metal siding.

If you had the choice to make which would it be?

Here is half our house plan.. and one of the installations for wood/ siding..

Let there be light

Catalogs galore

Are you bombarded with an onslaught of catalogs from time to time (or all the time)?  I use them as some of my lazy moment or light lunch reading.  What I have noticed is that there are some great budget saving finds.  Finds that I have drooled over on my high priced/ dream list for ages.  Especially if you are eager to complete a room but don't want to spend a fortune, catalogs are a great way to find that happy compromise and meet your decorative or lifestyle want.

Here are a few of the magazines and some great little finds within their pages..

Eileen Fisher is at Garnet Hill.  I have always been an admirerer of her simple and elegant fashion style,  her muted tones are right up my alley, her style says sophiticated and easy at the same time.   Love the linen sheets & gauzy cotton blankets that can be layered with just about anything.

Ballard Designs always had a trick up their sleeves.. for my taste it is always hit and miss but they do have lovely things..  & for a variety of clients and tastes it can be the perfect fit and price.

The RUTLAND BARSTOOL can be both contemporary and rustic, suited for more than one households taste.. Leopard prints I think always add flavor to a room when done in moderation.

This indoor/ outdoor rug (the LEOPARD NAVARRA) was eye catching.  Perfect for a house with sweet little rascals that can always use a good hosing down{i mean the rug of coarse}.

& look! Ballard Designs even puts together a great color board for a room design!  Just saying with one stop shop, it is kind of sweet..

WISTERIA, probabaly my more favored of the catalogs.. since they have some quirky or less predicatble pieces.  (I am less predictable sometimes. I have purchased a footed marble bowl, literally with little feet..so cute.)  A few pieces in particular I am attratcted to.

MORROCON MIRROR

MOORISH CHEST
 SLEEK GLASS DESK
 LARGE CLAM SHELL

{my little footed bowl & ostrich egg}

I think you could design a beautiful gorgeous room around these items, it would just take a little trust and a little bit of designer dust.  Get creative and don't always sluff off the catalogs that appear in your mailbox, flip through them even the most gastly catalogs harbor a great treasure or two.
